Lululemon yoga pants knock off

One of the benefits of having a sewing knowledge is seeing something in a store or elsewhere and being able to say “I could totally make this”. While I prefer to put my own ideas into a design, over the years I’ve done quite a few knock offs too. Such as these yoga leggings which are a very close copy of Lululemon’s True bliss yoga pants.

Back when I did these, Lululemon wasn’t available in Sweden. Now they have opened a store in Stockholm but I have yet to see any of their garments in real life. So this particular project was just me guessing the construction. The detail that drove me to these pants was the contrasting lower leg with gathers that look almost like leg warmers. Such a simple design detail that really adds a lot of personality to what is otherwise just a pair of simple leggings.

The gathers were achieved using thin elastic thread that is normally used for smocking.

As for the waist I actually joined two pieces of elastic to create a really wide waist band. This was something I just made up on the fly, but the method worked surprisingly well and is definitely a technique I will use again in the future.
