Often I tend to sew several similar garments in a row. Sometimes all I want to make is activewear, other times my mind centers around dresses or jersey tops. And a while back I was on a sweater jacket/hoodie kick and made two in a row. Usually these sewing streaks comes from doing something successfully, which always gives me motivation to repeating the process. The sweater kick came from finally nailing a raglan sloper pattern and also really getting the assembly process in check. I often try to mimic the methods that I find in ready to wear garments, and when I crack the code on a particular construction method I always get a special kind of sewing high!
This jacket is a deviation from my regular hoodie design. I wanted to make a sweater jacket that has a retro feel to it, a bit like something a retiree would wear, perhaps with matching trousers!
The fabric is a wonderful organic cotton sweater fabric that I’ve used for several projects, but now I only have one last piece left that I want to use for something special.
The collar was actually longer originally, but I forgot the prewash the ribbing, silly me!
I’m writing this blog post on the train down to Copenhagen me and my youngest daughter will spend Easter weekend there. I had planned to do some fabric shopping, because they have great fabric stores in Denmark, But they also really honor their public holidays and Sundays (unlike us Swedes!) so it looks like many stores will be closed unfortunately.
