Round neck cardigan sewing patterns

There are quite a few cardigan sewing patterns out there these days, but not many patterns for sewing sweater sets and classic crew neck cardigans, that are not v-neck. So I figured I should do a round-up post with with the round neck cardigan sewing patterns that I have found.

Lisbon cardigan

I love the classic look of this cardigan and it offers a great template for many variations such as contrasting ribbing and lace front pieces.

Sweater set

This sweater set looks really interesting as it has darts and is drafted to fit various bust sizes. One problem when sewing with knits is getting the fabric to fit well around the bust area and using darts would improve this issue a lot.

I really like this cardigan and the yoked version is super cute. Bonus points for having some width around the hips as well. I don’t like cardigans that sits tight around that area. (Thank you Debbie and Caitlyn for pointing me to this pattern)

Kwik sew

This out-of-print Kwik Sew cardigan set looks really promising too if you are looking for a sweater set or just a simple round neck cardigan sewing pattern. I used to sew a lot of Kwik Sew knit patterns in the past, but I have felt somewhat underwhelmed by the offerings during several years now. Does anyone have any info on why they have scaled back on their knits and activewear patterns and are much less on-trend?

Drafting your own round neck cardigan pattern

If you already have a knit top pattern that you really like and want to use that as a guide for drafting your own crew neck cardigan pattern you can use my tutorial.

Do you have any more classic round neck cardigan sewing patterns? Tell me in the comment section and I’ll add them to my list!

There’s the Jenna Cardigan by Muse Patterns. I haven’t sewn it, but it’s on my to-buy list for spring.

I was going to mention the Jenna too. Jennifer Lauren just released a new cardi pattern, Seamwork has one (or more), and I’m sure there are still more.

The Silhouettes sweater set has French darts, and is an excellent base pattern for many variations

I love that it has darts, it makes such a huge difference on how it sits on the body. I can see myself trying that pattern in the future!

I have Silhouette #195, and a lot of others. I lowered the neckline on the shell and added the sleeves from the cardigan and the top was wonderful. Unfortunately, even though I prewashed the fabric, it just would not quit shrinking in subsequent washings and I finally had to donate it. Bummer.

Oh, that is happened to me too with some sweater knits. Agree it is such a bummer! I think I will definitely try this pattern or at least draft something similar with the darts, I love how that makes garments fit so much better

I have a really old Kwik Sew cardigan pattern. I have some fabrics earmarked for it if it ever cools down. I like that daisy lace front panelled one. One month of autumn down and it’s still 27 degrees at night.

Wow 27 degrees, we don’t even have that most summer days! I too love the lace collar version and will make something similar in the future. I actually wear cardigans on warm days as well as a form of light sun protection. But the only ones that works for that purpose are thin cotton open lace crocheted ones, and they are quite hard to find.

Joanna, when your book it printed, where are we going to be able to purchase it? I’m in London, Ontario, Canada.

Ps, you have been very helpful in regards to using my cover stitch. I have only had it for abou 2 weeks.
