Video: Sewing a stash busting spring wardrobe

Planning new projects is one of the best things about sewing, do you agree with me? Because the planning is always fun and exciting to me, but sewing, well, not always. Sometimes when I’m stuck with something difficult or tedious I wish I had access to little minions that would help me finish up things. But then again, I’m a total control freak when it comes to sewing. Plus to be honest, I also kinda enjoy the suffering that comes with this craft, heck I even love complaining about it!

Anyways this was a long winding way to say that in this video I share my spring sewing plans using only fabrics from stash. I really need to get the stash under control again, the last six months has been a blur of fabric shopping and while it was fun while it lasted, I do feel better when I turn my fabrics into garments.

Luckily I’m going to a sewing camp next weekend, so I think I will get a lot of stuff done there. Those camps are the best, this is my third and I love both the social aspect and the luxury of just being able to sew and not having to think about anything else. This is just a local day camp though, so I won’t be sleeping away from home.

Things mentioned in the video

My Fabric Stash organisation cards

Piping with thin threads from Bibbis Textil

Burdastyle silk blouse with piping

How coincidental that you talked about the Hedy lamarr blouse…I absolutely fell in love with it when I read your post about it from way back and I was going to ask if you had gotten around to sewing one. The optimistic part of me is tempted to try to draft/make one, but as a new sewist I’m pretty sure that’s a misguided thought! Will have to do a pattern search to see if I can find something similar. Good luck with all your spring sewing plans! Look forward to seeing your progress.

It actually looks quite easy to draft, just slashing the front mid part to create the gathers. But getting the zipper insert nice might be a little tricky though. And I think one needs to add a midriff part like many bloused of the 30’s and 40’s had. I could send you the pattern diagram if you want. I too have not given up on the project, perhaps we can both make it happen ☺

This is a generous offer, thanks yes that would be great if you could send me the diagram. I’m still a ‘follow a pattern’ sewist but have done some limited reading on pattern drafting… Am willing to give it a go!
