Workout leggings for Anja

I will officially label these leggings the most labor intensive leggings I have ever made. Anja came to me with a very specific idea, taking inspiration from a pair of leggings she found online from the brand Even Odd (are sold on Zalando).

But she didn’t want the mesh insets, so I replaced those with black fabric. And I also had to change the shape of some of the panels to make the assembly process easier. I used my own leggings pattern draft and did a little bit tighter, in hindsight I could have graded it down a little more, but she is happy with the fit.

To mimic the industrial flatlock seams I did a reverse 3-thread top stitching on my coverstitch machine. Since the black fabric repels needles I struggled getting the top stitching perfect and had to redo it in several places due to skipped stitches. I even had a dream about the seams unraveling! But normally this method works really well.

The leggings has three pockets as per Anja’s request, one at each side (with covers) and also a waist band pocket. I love having pockets on my activewear so I totally understand where she comes from.

Anja and Stella goofing around in there new leggings. Stay tuned for a post about Stella’s leggings that is coming next week!

If you haven’t already, you can also check out my video about the project.

Black and the grey/white fabric are from Stoff & Stil

White supplex from A-G Textil.

I so enjoy your v/blogs. Particularly appreciate all the great content related to sewing athletic wear. (I REALLY wish you were teaching a leggings class for Crafty using your pattern.) BTW – Your girls and their leggings look terrific.

I have a request related to one of your instagram posts: “I figured it out by dissecting a pair of worn out leggings with an enclosed zipper. I wish there where more resources for this, I too struggle to find them, but one book I like is Sewing secrets from the fashion industry (great methods but bad photos). As for the zipper: Basically you attach the zipper on the right side, slash it open, turn and then top stitch. No stay piece is required. But I did interface the fabric” . Could you show video this technique?

Hi! I’m writing an e-book on sewing activewear and I will include the tutorial there. Not sure when the book will be finished though. Finding the time is always a challenge ☺
