I recently redid my sewing space and since it was over two years ago since I last did a sewing room tour on my YouTube-channel I thought this was a good time to do a full video tour of my space, which is situated in a corner of our living room.
Sewing can demand quite a lot of space, and it’s a constant struggle to keep the area manageable. I’m sure even those of you who have a dedicated sewing room can relate to this! So I’ve really tried to be smart about storage, while also creating a workspace that makes the sewing and cutting process smooth, even though I don’t have a ton of space.
By the way, i didn’t think I would be able to stand and sew due to the cords for the pedals being too short. But since I’m pretty short too, I managed to sew on the serger yesterday while standing. And though it did feel a bit odd at first, I think this can be totally doable for me. But yes, the short cords does make it pretty difficult for most folks, I suspect. Have you tried sewing while standing, and what did you think?

Ask me how I know; I ruined my first mat many years ago by PRESSING a piece of fabric on it! 🥴😩 I know you’d never do that, but might you have pressed something and then laid it down on your mat while it was hot? Does sunlight from a window fall on it? Does heat from a vent blow directly on it? You may never know. I’ve read somewhere that you can soak a mat in hot water in the bathtub, let it soften up, take it out and quickly dry it off (or not), and lay it flat and weight the whole mat down until it stays flat again. December 11, 2019 at 8:58 amYes, I suspect it’s the heat that caused mine too. While I have not pressed directly on the mat, I sometimes have placed my small sleeve iron board on top of the mat, and the steam and heath from that process are probably what messed it up. Now I feel remorse from not realising this, but hearing that you too didn’t think of this first either is kinda comforting. It’s not easy to know these things. But too bad it ruined our mats!

To flatten your mat get the clamps from an office store (really large ones) to clamp the sides down all around your table.
As for your scissors definitely get them sharpened. Find out favorite hair salon and where do they get their scissors sharpened. Hairdressers need sharps scissors.
