What's the secret to sewing dressier pants?
Dedicate LOTS of time and be prepared to rip and resew, often many times, lol. Most of the details you see here have been sewn at least two times. I understand that this approach might not be for everyone. But for me, I find it deeply rewarding when I feel like I finally nailed a certain technique. After all, most of us do this as a hobby and not on the clock. So be kind to yourself if you don't succeed on the first try. Most of us won't even when we have decades of sewing under our belt 😀

Have you made a knit garment thinking it would be nice to cover the seam allowance on the back neckline? Here is how to do it! Use a narrow band, around 15 mm (5/8″) wide. It should be about 6 mm (1/4″) wider than the seam allowance for best result. 1. Press and fold in one side of the band. You don’t need to trim the band yet. 2. Place the band at the shoulder seam 3. Baste the band to the seam allowance 4. Stitch the band to the seam allowance. Use a straight stitch and sew as close as possible to the edge. 5. Stop, trim and fold the band to align with the opposite shoulder seam. 6. Finish sewing and backstitch. 7. Remove basting stitches 8. Baste the band to the garment 9. Sew the band to the neckline. If you using a contrasting band, use a thread in the bobbin that matches the garment fabric. 10. Start at the folded edge, pivot, and sew along the lower edge then pivot again and secure. Looks pretty neat, right? The trick is to use a band with the perfect width and to sew slowly and precisely. You can switch to a zipper foot if the regular presser foot doesn’t stay flat.

How to sew a bib collar (dickie) — no knitting r

How to sew a bib collar (dickie) — no knitting required! Keeps you warm without the bulk. Plus it's the perfect quick DIY holiday gift too 🎁
1. Draft the bib pattern. If you already have a turtle neck top pattern, it's even easier. Just overlap back and front piece at shoulder point and draw the bib over it using a tracing paper. I used my #gurlitop pattern.
2. Draft the collar. Make the collar length around 80-85% of the neckline circumference (or even shorter if using a ribknit with less recovery)
3. Cut the bib (and mark notches)
4. Cut the collar (on fold) and mark the notches.
5. Overcast the edges, ideally with a serger, using a 3-thread overlock stitch.
6. Fold and stitch the collar seam (right sides facing)
7. Attach the collar to the bib. Stretch as you sew to fit the notches
8. The bib is finished! So easy, you can make this in less than an hour 👍🏻
