Some years ago I was really into screen printing. However screen printing never took a liking to me –it was for the most part just a big struggle to be honest. There were tears, a feeling of inadequacy and a lot of thrown away rejects, as I often had to repeat the process several times before I was satisfied.

And sometimes that feeling of  inadequacy gave me a distorted view of the end result. For instance I printed this skirt fabric during a one day printing workshop five years ago and wrote a post titled Ramblings and screen printing failures about my experience. In particular I was disappointed in my performance and that the print didn’t end up perfect (there are spots here and there which are not covered by colour). But looking back I was way too hard on myself, and I’m glad I kept some of the fabric, Because four years later I turned the print rejects into a skirt that I absolutely love.

The print design is also truly a labor of love, my husband designed it in 2008 for me and I first used it for a dress, doing the print in both black and white.

Man did I look young then, but back in 2008 I probably felt like I was aging fast since I was about to turn 36! Sometimes it is good to look back and get some perspective on things. The same thing has happened with the blouse I was not feeling earlier this week. I wore it to a work function and you know what – I like it much better now!
