A DIY running t-shirt

So it’s time talk about my DIY running t-shirt that I made as part of my ultimate workout wardrobe. I have never owned a ready to wear sports t-shirt that I liked, mostly because it is either too tight so that it rides up all the way to my waist, exposing my tummy in the process, which no fun! Or it is too big and boxy on my short body, which I don’t like either.  So I wanted to make a t-shirt that has some room in the tummy area, while still having a semi-fitted shape. In hindsight, I could have tapered in the waist more and also added more room in the tummy area, but that aside I love how this t-shirt fits on my body!

To make the t-shirt more moisture wicking and also to add some fun design elements I added inserts with Stoff och Stil’s sports net fabric. Though it could be more effective when it comes to cooling the body and keep the moisture away, but it’s all right.

The zip pocket in the back is my proudest accomplishment. It took me four samples and an entire evening to figure out how to attach a zipper without a stay, similar to the zipper application on ready to wear workout clothes.

I used the tape binder attachment for my Janome Cover pro to apply the binding to neckline. It was a nightmare and I had to redo the neckline like six times before I was somewhat satisfied with the result.

All in all I’m very pleased with how the running t-shirt turned out and that was able to realize a vision of something that I couldn’t find in a store. This is the magic power that we sewists have and that so many others are envious of. We don’t have to spend countless of fruitless and soul destroying hours in search of that perfect garment, we can just make it ourselves!
