Sewing saturday: One photo per hour (almost)

So what exactly does a (weekend) day in my life looks like? And how do I fit in things like sewing and exercise? Well in today’s blog post I take you along my day and documenting it to my best ability. So let’s go!


8:00

Good morning! I usually don’t set the alarm on weekends but I still wake up relatively early. I’m wearing an old Burdastyle silk/rayon jersey top, I always wear loungewear when I’m home, as I need to feel 100% comfortable in order to relax!

 


9:00

Breakfast. Oatmeal and banana pancakes with cottage cheese and strawberries. I just realised I eat oatmeal pretty much every day, either porridge, homemade granola, overnight oats or pancakes. Oatmeal is a great staple, locally grown, fairly cheap (even the organic variety), plus nutritious. And no I’m not drinking Coke for breakfast, it’s cold brew ice-coffee!

 

10:00

Sewing time. Still working on my jeans, this project feels like it takes forever. Today is waistband day, and I’m taking my time to make sure the finishing looks neat enough.

 

11:00

Yoga time. On Saturdays, I usually try to do a yoga session at home. I’m wearing a super old Burdastyle workout top and knit shorts that I made recently.

 


12:00

More sewing. Waistbands are so hard! Especially on the inside. I employ a myriad of tricks to make it as neat as possible, including stitching a folding stitch and using a seam guide to make sure the waistband will be even.

 

14:00

On my way. Walking to the city centre, which is a 45-minute walk. I love walking and try to do it as much as possible, the more I’m outdoors the more energy I have. Super important for life in the Northern Hemisphere since we get so little daylight during winter. Plus I’m a big fan of time-effective exercise, so rather than hopping on a bus, I commute by foot or bike if the distance isn’t too long. I’m wearing a Burdastyle eyelet blouse that I love so much.

 

14:30

Notion shopping. Visiting a haberdashery shop to purchase jeans buttons and rivets. We have a fantastic local store with the biggest button selection I’ve ever seen in a shop. #blessed.

 

15:30

Movie time. I and my daughter Anja both love high budget spy action movies with breathtaking cinematography. Basically only James Bond and Mission Impossible fits that bill if you ask me. So we watched the latest Mission Impossible, and it delivered on all accounts. But Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt is totally devoid of any personality, which is why I prefer the James Bond movies any day of the week. BTW when will we have a female or a person of colour to headline one of these films? It says a lot about our society that we still have not seen that, but on the heel of successes of Wonderwoman and Black Panther, one would think that the studios have run out of excuses. I do hope the gossip that Idris Elba will be the next Bond is true.

 

18:00

Tram ride home. I live in a city with an extensive tram network. It is slow travelling, but I prefer them over buses since I don’t get motion sickness on trams.

 

19.00

Attacking the waistband again. My best tip for a neat inside is to use double sided water soluble tape (wonder tape). I’ve done a tutorial on how to sew a neat waistband using this miracle tape.

 

20:00

Dinner with vegetarian hot dogs. We take turns making dinner, and on Saturday’s my husband is doing the cooking. He is a late eater, so this was a very anticipated meal (i.e. I was hungry!). I eat a mostly plant based diet, and this is my 30th year doing so! It’s crazy to think about it, but as you can guess, eating meat feels very foreign to me at this point (but I do eat fish and seafood occasionally).

 

21:00

Still working on the same waistband. Yes, it is taking me all day, lol. But at least I’m now at the point where I can topstitch it.

 

22:00

Trying the pair on. The waistband is a tad bit snug (hopefully it will stretch out) but apart from that, I think the jeans fits me very well. Now I have to install the waistband on my second pair, but that will not happen until next weekend. Time to go to bed!

    Your breakfast looks delicious – I’m going to try that myself (although without the bananas as they don’t seem to like me). Thanks for sharing this glimpse into your day.

      I’m sure they can be done just as well without bananas, they mostly add some sweetness. And if you want something, fruity perhaps blueberries would be great?
