Gothic lolita sewing

April 11, 2010 7 Comments

While I am not planning to go gothic lolita, I find this Japanese sewing and styling magazine very intriguing. From Ebay seller pomadour24.
If I ever go to Japan I want to fill a whole suitcase with their fantastic pattern magazines and books! In the meantime I am really tempted to buy one of these GL issues, just out of curiosity.

Pomadour is the japanese pattern sewer par excellence. She's also on Etsy…

The Japanese certainly have interesting patterns. I wonder how much the Japanese actually sew, or how many of them do.

    Hi Johanna!
While I don't necessarily wear gothic or lolita fashion, I love looking at these magazines. I'm always so inspired and amazed at the awesome clothes. I wanted to share with you that there is a place on the web where you can actually download some of these magazines!
The site is in Russian, and of course it doesn't come with any patterns or anything, but it is so much fun to look through!
There are several issues on this page:

and you can scroll through to find more GLB, even some Mrs. Stylebook and other random japanese crafting magazines. It is like a treasure trove of inspiration. SO cool!

I'm with you on bringing an empty suitcase if I ever visit Japan. I'd love to get my hands on about a hundred or two of those awesome books and magazines.

I definitely need to check this out. I have a 12 year old who is into manga and "cosplay". I never heard of it before but she wants to dress up as a character for Halloween. Now I know where I need to look for inspiration.

Thank you for posting about this subject. Even a mere mention of this on a 'regular' sewing blog is interesting. My 13 year old is so fascinated by this type of attire and constantly complains at how expensive it is to buy a brand product. She is sooo desperate that she is contemplating letting me sew something for her.
Thanks for the extra information about downloading from a website.

You just sparked my curiousity. 🙂
I've been in love with the goithic lolita look forever, and I sew alot myself, but I hadn't even considered that there'd be patterns out there… (of course there would be…. o.O)
I do pattern cutting myself, so I might just be a bit narrow minded. hehe.

But thank you for opening my eyes! I might just buy some lolita pattern books one day soon. 🙂
