Next up: Burdastyle workout top and Sloan leggings

I’m making a workout set that was originally planned to be an entry in Pattern Review’s activewear competition. But I’m sooo late to the game and most likely won’t make the 15 February deadline. I might do just the top or leggings this weekend – we’ll see! I’m not interested in making something halfheartedly just to meet a deadline. Anyways, a few words about my first ever Spoonflower order. I ordered their lycra sport knit and was made aware by several helpful sewists that it is printed on white fabric, hence why there is a slight a white sheen trough the fabric. So if the print is dark, it will get a slightly white cast to it. But I threw caution to the wind and ordered some dark fabric anyway, since I figured I could live with the white. And the short story is, it looks fine. I designed two fabrics, the blue and white pictured here using my logo and another one that has a leaf print, that you can see on my Instagram.

I will try out two new patterns for this project. The workout top is from from Burdastyle 1/2017 pattern number 105  and the leggings are Sloan from Hey June. I’ve been working hard on my own leggings pattern for the last year or so, but I thought it would be nice to test a commercial pattern again and see how I like it. What drew me to this patterns was the wide waist band the fact that it comes in petite! And tall sizes as well, if that’s more your jam. Both patterns will be severely hacked by yours truly since I don’t really get excited by sewing plain workout wear at the moment. And part from the navy Spoonflower print I will use white and navy supplex and some mesh inserts as well.

So this is the work I will do this weekend and we’ll see if I can meet the deadline!

I’m excited to see how this outfit will turn out! I saw he top on burda magazine and I like the shape but I wonder how particle it really will be for activewear

I began sewing it yesterday and you do have a point, it has some floppy seams in the front that should be stitched down to feel fully like proper activewear. Also the inner lining should have been an inner built-in bra instead (I have added a bra). But the shape is flattering and fun, so with some tweaks I think it could work.
