Confession: I’ve haven’t sewn anything proper since the beginning of August. That’s a loong time for me. Sewing like a maniac for all of July and getting a bit burned out, going back to work after the holiday, moving my blog to WordPress and a busy August are all things that has contributed to the current state of affairs. And September looks to be equally busy with things booked pretty much every weekend. But Friday evening and Sunday this week are currently a blank slate so that’s when I’m planning to tackle my latest project, a varsity sweater with my initial on it. I’ve wanted one like forever, but felt a bit intimidated by the monogram process and never found any ready-made letters that were big enough.
Anyways, now it’s time to expand my tool box and give it a try. I will use black and white fleece and edge stitch the letter with zigzag-stitches. If this works out, I will definitely turn it into a tutorial! Also a quick note about the pattern, it’s from a book called Urban Collection by Swedish fashion designer Jenny Hellström. The aesthetic reminds me of Wendy Mullen’s Sew-U books, urban hipster if you may, the sort of style that was really popular in the early 2000’s and which I still really enjoy, perhaps for nostalgic reasons.
I’m using stash fabrics, so my sweater will not be as bright and poppy as in the pattern photo, but the monogram and the burnout voile will hopefully add some interest to my version.
