I feel that this fall will fly by and it will be the end of the year pretty soon. Always so much stuff going on during fall, it can feel overwhelming sometimes, plus we have no public holiday breaks during fall in Sweden, which means no days off from August until X-mas. But yesterday I actually applied for two days off later this fall as a preventive measure!
✂️ Love to Sew: New podcast added to my sewing podcast list
Several people have told me to check out the new(ish) podcast Love to Sew and now I have finally listened to enough episodes to give you a rundown and add it to my Big List of Sewing Podcasts. The hosts are Canadian sewing entrepreneurs Helen Wilkinson from Helen’s Closet and Caroline Somos of Black Bird Fabrics. They do both interviews with various sewing profiles and make episodes around different sewing topics.
I especially enjoyed the episode about perfection – it offered a lot of food for thought and I liked how they integrated voices from the listeners into the discussion. Great sound quality and a professional delivery right from the get-go, I really like this podcast and the hosts. There are in fact a lot Canadians doing sewing podcasts and what I will say now might sound a bit odd, but as a Swede, I can really resonate and connect with the tonality of those Canadian hosts. Perhaps it’s because we are both surrounded by cold weather and conifer. Plus I love how Canadians pronounce about. That is how I can tell that the person is from Canada and not from the USA. 🙂
✂️I’m taking a BabyLock serger class
Tomorrow I’m finally taking a class for my BabyLock Imagine that I bought earlier this year. Hadn’t planned to wait this long, but time does indeed fly. A good thing about waiting is that I can now ask for the more advanced stuff since I’ve already learned the basics myself.
✂️ Sewing meet-up!
On Sunday I and three other local sewists meet up for a coffee and sewing chat. We have gotten to know each other through a Facebook group and it was so nice to meet up in person. We talked about our upcoming sewing plans, shared tips, lamented a bit about taping together multiple pdf:s (one had just taped 100 pages for a coat pattern!) and talked about how we sometimes feel torn between all the musts in life (day job and all that jazz) and finding time and energy for our sewing passion. Such an uplifting meeting!
✂️ Book update
The book is moving ahead at a slow but steady state. This week I’m about to start working on the chapters about adding crotch gussets and sewing waistbands. Working on the book and making all the samples has helped me to be more focused and systematic in my own sewing. I just finished all four pieces of my latest workout collection and I could tell that my skills have improved.
Anyhow, my goal is to have the book finished in its first ebook iteration in mid-December. You can sign up for email updates to get notified on the progress and get some inside scoops too (plus a quick guide for sewing machine stitches for knits).
Also, if you want to get monthly tutorials from my upcoming book you can become a Patreon and pick some of my book preview tiers. I uploaded the October tutorials yesterday so they are available now.
So this is what’s going on in my (sewing) life currently. Do you feel excited or stressed about fall? Or perhaps a bit of both?
