My sewing spaces on the internet

April 6, 2017 6 Comments

These days having a blog is just one part of a fairly big interweb puzzle. No wonder we feel like we don’t have time updating all those various outlets! Anyways, let’s take a look at all the sewing related spaces you can find me on the web.

Instagram: Laststitch

I was a late bloomer when it came to getting a sewing related Instagram account. In fact it only just over a year old. It looks like so much of sewing sharing has moved to here (and to Facebook groups). This is my most frequently updated social media channel. But I’m a fairly verbose, story telling kind of person and I find getting beneath the surface on Instagram is hard. That is why I’m happy to have the blog and my Youtube-channel too (see below).

Bloglovin: The Last Stitch

Bloglovin has really developed into an excellent product. Much better then ol’ and now retired Google Reader. And a great feature for us with special interests is the Similar blogs blog roll. I have done my posts available to read as full text in the Bloglovin reader but I do wish that the new comment feature was better, or have I missed how one can reply to particular comments?  Can I only create a new one?

Pinterest: Laststitchsew

Here I collect fashion inspiration for my me-made wardrobe and I also have boards for my tutorials and sewed garments. I love Pinterest as a source of inspiration, and should probably use it even more.

Youtube: TheLastStitchTV

My second favourite thing after the blog. Every Sunday I upload a new video, and I mix sewing tutorials with more vlog styles videos. I put a lot of effort into the editing, which makes videomaking a quite time consuming output. But videos on Youtube lives for a long time so I figure the effort will be worth it.

Facebook group: Sewing Activewear

I started this group as a way for us sewists to chat about sewing activewear, show our makes, ask for help and share tips, patterns and other resources. We are over 100 people now and you are welcome to join if this is something for you!

Facebook: LastStitchSew

My Facebook-page. This one is dismal compared to my other outputs, only around 70 followers at the moment. Can we make that to a 100 at least 🙂 Here you can see my latest posts and videos, some sewing life tidbits and I also regularly share tutorials. I could see myself making more for of this page in the future.

So that was all my sewing spaces on the internet! Which ones do you prefer for sewing related stuff?

Great post Johanna! When you talked about all of your social media outlets, it seems like a full-time job, LOL! (At least that’s the way I feel about mIne!). However, I do know they are a necessary evil! You do a great job at updating and your content is always very informative (and fun too!)

Yes it is a lot! I remember a time when people just participated in a sewing forum and at the most had a blog. Now it is so hard to keep track of people and sewing because we are everywhere ☺. But I do think that the expanding sewing internet has been a big factor in rekindling the sewing boom we are seeing currently. Which is great!

I don’t do instagram because it’s only for cell phone users and I’m not – I know REALLY? I have no use for a cell because I work from home and when I’m out I don’t want a phone anywhere near me – it’s just not useful to me but instagram is cell phone based and maybe that’s why it’s becoming so popular. I do follow a number of sewists on fb and youtube – a LOT 🙂 including you of course. I’m a huge youtube fan. When I see how much work sewists are putting into their social media updates I’m in awe. There is only so many hours in the day 🙂 I appreciate all you do Johanna! Always enjoy your stories, instruction and suggestions.

I agree about your observation about Instagram, so much of your online consumption happens on cell phones today and for that instagram is the perfect format. But I do miss the days of more meaty sewing content. That said, I think YouTube will be the place for the more meaty, content rich outputs in the future. Plus podcasts of course!

I love your YouTube videos and look forward to them every Sunday!! And I love Instagram. I never got a Facebook account, and while I have a Pinterest account, I never got hooked on it and don’t do anything with it. I gave up Twitter and have stopped blogging for now after 9 straight years of blogging. I’m really happy you came back to social media to talk about your sewing again!

Interesting that you have shunned Facebook. In Sweden almost everyone has an account, it has pretty much become a mandatory form of communication even though many folks feel conflicted about it. Is it the same in the US? As for the sewing blogging movement I think it is definitely has moved to instagram now, so much easier to update and more accessible so I can totally see why people stop blogging. I have a rekindled love for blogging after my hiatus but who knows what will happen in the future!
