Video: Red dress update – I’ve picked a pattern and fabric!

If you watched my first red dress video you know that I’m making a red festive dress for the holidays as part of the #thelittlereddressproject initiated by blogger and Youtuber Runningnstyle. The basic brief is making a red shift/sheath dress using a red fabric and I asked you for suggestions on which of three vintage patterns I should choose. Well the choice is now made (thank you for the amazing input) and I have (finally) found the right fabric for it too. So it was time to update you all on how things are going with my sewing plans. The dress should be finished before Christmas so I will soon start to tackle muslins and such, but first I need to take some time off from complicated sewing for a bit, because I have really gone hard lately finishing my workout wardrobe. I will share those garments soon BTW, just need to get them all documented (light is such a hassle in Sweden this time of the year). Also as a side note, if you fall hard for the Valentino swan (!) collar I mention in the video, you can buy a reasonable facsimile here.

Very excited by your collar idea, I think it’s going to be fantastic!

I’m excited too! I plan to do a blog tutorial on how I did the detachable collar as well

What a brilliant idea to make a detachable collar – I never would have thought of that in a million years. The fabric, lace on the collar will make this dress gorgeous. I am a big fan of high quality fabric as well so I laughed as you describe yourself hearing the “magic word” from the seller “VERSACE”. Congratulations Johanna – this dress is going to be a work of art!

The detachable collar idea was the result of me having plenty of time thinking about it, since I wasn’t able to start with the project right away. That can be a blessing sometimes! And lol about the Versace! I’m very gullible plus it’s nice to know that I will have a dress that would have cost several thousands in a store, for just a fraction of that 🙂
