Video: Sewing darts without tracing paper or thread tacks

I got some great questions and comments on my tutorial on sewing darts with minimal markings and prep work. So I thought I should do also do a video sewing tutorial on this method, so you can see more in detail how it works and I also address some of the questions I got in the video. If you don’t have an awl, a bigger sewing needle will also work.

Also I got a great tip from the commenter G who makes a ball with the loose thread on the imaginary sewing line and then follow it with the sewing foot. Definitely worth a try I think!

I think this must be one of the fastest way to make darts. And with a little practice, sewing without a marked line will be a charm. The notches and holes will be enough to guide you. Promise!

Yes this is how I do my darts… it is also the industrial method and sometimes (particularly in synthetics) you can see where the holes are. Nice video.

Yes! I think we home sewists should have more access to the industrial methods, because often the traditional sewing books makes things overly complicated, especially if we are not planning to make high end tailored garments.

Nifty idea. I'll need to remember this one.

Yes, it is brilliant, all you need is to practice sewing a line without line markers, but for experienced sewists like you it will be a quick learn 🙂
