Which is the best book on sewing with knits?

Which book on sewing with knits is the best one? To answer that pressing question I’ve done a video review discussing two popular books on knits: Sewing with knits by Connie Long and Colette’s guide to sewing knits by Alyson Clair. In the video I’ll give you the positives and the negatives, talk about what the books contain, what they lack and which book you should buy depending on your skill level. Hope you will find the video useful. I’ve also upped the graphics and sound effects in this video – editing is by far the best part of the video process!

Now I’m curious to hear your opinions and recommendations on books about sewing with knits. There are not that many out there yet and most classic sewing books don’t really cater to knits, but hopefully that will change.

PS I’ve recently bought Nancy Zieman’s book Sew knits with confidence book so look out for a review on that book too in the future, probably together with Wendy Mullen’s Sew-U Home Stretch book.

Great review, will definitely be looking for the Connie Long book on Amazon. I have always admired the quality of the sewing of your knits.

Thank you! Yes Connie's book is definitely my no. 1 recommendation, I think you will be very pleased, though at first the book might almost be overwhelming because it just has so much info!

Thank you Johanna for your very very helpful review! I found your blog looking for reviews about Sewing with Knits and Stretch Fabrics by Sharon Czachor. It's a new and quite costly book so I didn't dare to order it yet. I have experience with Wovens and I bought years ago the same author book Sewing Techniques for designers. Actually didn't use it so often… maybe you know this book and maybe you could tell me something about it..? 🙂 Anyway I loved your blog and I will order Connie's book! Thank you!

You're welcome! I'm not familiar with this book unfortunately, but you have peaked my curiosity! There is only a handful of sewing books covering knits out there so not a lot to chose from when you get started. Pity about the very high price point though, I suspect it's geared towards fashion students and professionals, hence the price. Nancy Zieman’s book Sew knits with confidence is also really good and I need to review that one too soon!

Your right about the price, at least that's how they advertise this book. For students and professionals. I'll buy first Connie's book… and also wait for your next review, and, if for some crazy reason I would end up buying this new expensive book, I'll let you know!
Your reply was a big, good surprise for me today, thank you!
