Grey workout top with mesh inserts

Workout top with mesh inserts

Thank you for all the comments on my crazy jacket sewing video! I will do a proper blog post about the jacket soon, just need to photograph it first.

About a year ago I bought 3 yards of wickaway fabric from Rockywoods. Getting functional fabrics from the US can be crazy expensive due to shipping, taxes and custom fees. Plus the US dollar is up like 20% in recent year. But I managed to snag this small order before Rockywoods changed their shipping pricing to Europe. I think I payed about 35 euro in total, and that small batch of fabric has yielded five garments, four tops and one pair of capri leggings. This top was the last one I made from this batch. I had originally planned to a design that was inspired by a Lole garment, but since I had so little fabric left, I ended up having to be more creative and used a lot of mesh to fill in the gaps. Perhaps it looks a little funny, but I love how much personality this design has, plus as I grown older I tend to gravitate more and more towards garments that has some room in the tummy area.

For the straps and inserts I used power mesh.

The mesh is covered by fold over elastic (my tutorial on sewing fold over elastic)

As with most workout tops I do, this one has a built in bra
