I have made two pairs of Merchant & Mills’ Heroine Jeans, and I love them. They have a great vintage vibe with a great fit–fitted at waist and hip but nice and roomy below. With four more stacks of denim fabric, notions, and patterns (Morgan & GingerJeans, Jalie jeans, and Itch to Stich jeans) on my sewing shelves just waiting to be made, I am so excited to be getting closer to receiving your new jeans sewing book!

In your post you say a “Burda [jeans pattern] is coming soon”, and I know new English Burda site is hard to search but I found these on the Russian Burda site (the search function actually works* and you can browse magazine by issue) in order to create reference document so I could find them in my magazine stash.
Burda has so many jeans patterns, I have no justification for buying more.
    Magazines: https://burdastyle.ru/zhurnaly/
This list is by no means exhaustive, as I didn’t look in each issue:
    Classic straight leg 04/2010 #120 https://burdastyle.ru/vikroyki/dzhinsy/dzhinsy-burda-2010-4-120/
    Skinny jeans with zipper 07/2010 #104 https://burdastyle.ru/vikroyki/dzhinsy/dzhinsy-burda-2010-7-104/
    Stretch jeans 03/2014 #115 https://burdastyle.ru/vikroyki/bryuki/bryuki-burda-2014-3-115
    Stretch slim leg jeans 08/2019 #104 https://burdastyle.ru/vikroyki/bryuki/bryuki-oblegayushchego-kroya-burda-2019-8-104/
*Note: To search Burda.ru Google translate search terms into Russian then paste in search field

I found the above in Google image search, then looked up details on Burda.ru, but I just took my own advice and searched “denim” (джинсовая ткань) and found maternity jeans.

Searching “jeans” (джинсы) didn’t find so many, as Russian tends to refer to ‘denim style’ rather than jeans. There are also children’s and men’s jeans)
I have also been buying from the Russian site. If you wait until they are on sale patterns are RU 99 (about AU$1.50), but full price only RU 200 (AU$3.00), whereas English site is US $6.99/pattern.

This is a great list and a lot I haven’t seen before. Do you know the 1083 brand free patterns. I got them on this website where the links for the mens and womens jeans are. They look really nice jeans. https://sewingtidbits.com/2014/05/20/free-pattern-alert-the-french-jeans-edition/

My favorite jeans to sew are JStern (Jennifer Sterns) jeans. I think she’s a genius with pattern drafting. She provides fit classes at ASG events! Also, Hotpatterns has a pair of boyfriend jeans (I’ve yet to make up!).

the kwik sew mens jeans are hideous, the quadra jeans from thread theory are a huge improvement

I have both of these patterns, and agree. The Kwik Sew patterns is absolutely abysmal. The legs are stupid-wide, and there’s too much room in the crotch. I just made the Quadras and they are most excellent. Just use the finished garment measurements, compared to your best fitting RTW pair to determine size, and they will be perfect. Oh, and the way they have you ease the much smaller waistband onto the pants is a bit too much. I added an extra inch and a half to the waistband, and eased far less, to keep it from adding darts in the wrong places.

The Workroom Social has the Claryville Jeans pattern (1-3% stretch denim and for larger hip to waist ratio) and Halfmoon Atelier has the 101 Jeans pattern (lower rise, straight leg and non-stretch denim).

I bought my jean pattern from Pattydoo.de, very reasonably priced at 2.99 EUR. It’s accompanied by a 4 part free YouTube video (it’s in German but as long as you have rudimentary knowledge of German and/or sewing it shouldn’t be a problem) that guides you through all part, making the pattern, trying it out before sewing etc. Loved the result and between the book and the videos I got a fab pair of jeans.

German company patydoo.de has at least one (probably two) jeans patters. I didn’t tried them but all her patterns are accompanied with videotutorial so one don’t need to know much German.

I purchased the Quadra Jeans pattern, printed 2 copies to scale on a 36 inch roll printer, and attempted to sew 4 pairs of jeans using the template, and each time I ended up with jeans with a finished waist at least 4 inches larger than what the template indicates. I tried different weights of non-stretch denim with the same outcome. The shape of the template seems to be off, particularly in the hip area, and the waist sizes printed on the template don’t correspond the the finished construction.

Taking measurements of the pattern itself, it’s clear why the jeans are consistently turning out with a waistline 4 inches larger than the numbers printed.

Great post! Thank you! I’ve made the tapered Dawn jeans and love them. Now trying the Merchant and Mills Heroine – can’t wait! And also added your Jeans book to my “books to buy” list! One question… could you do a notions post? I find it really hard to find good quality notions for jeans or good quality hardware for other garments (like belt buckles).

I have Alesia high waist stretch jeans pattern. I have your book, and I was hoping to find help on adjusting the back, because when I did a test run using stretch denim, the back dropped when I sat. ( I tested without a waistband.)
