Video: Do these Sewing Hacks Really Work?

Can you sharpen a pair of scissors with aluminium foil? Is soap better than tailor’s chalk? Is there a way to flatten a warped cutting mat? And can rubber bands keep the pedals in place?

I get so many interesting sewing tips from my viewers on my YouTube-channel. So I decided to do a video where I test some of the more radical sewing tips that I’ve gotten from you guys, to find out if I can make them work. And I highly recommend that you check out the comments on this video too on my channel, because so much additional information and tips are shared there.

In the video I also mention the Fiskars Scissors Sharpener (affiliate link) and while it doesn’t replace a professional sharpening, I have used it with great success on my less precious scissors both for fabric and paper.

I hope you enjoyed this video and if you have any more tips to share, please drop them in the comment section and they might en up in a follow-up video!

Loved the video. Regarding the cutting mat. I would be curious to see what would happen if you now turn the mat over and apply the heat and weight to the remaining “bump”.

Martha Stewart advocates cutting sandpaper to sharpen your scissors. It’s worth a test!
