I’m super excited to finally be able to share with you more details about my upcoming coverstitch book. I’ve had so much fun working with it and so far the process has felt way less cumbersome than my first book. Probably because I now have a good routine for producing the content and I’m already familiar with the bookmaking process.
I have so many nuggets of information that I’m dying to share with you– it’s very clear that one can easily fill an entire book just talking about coverstitching. And since there is still no dedicated book about coverstitching only out there, I decided I should make one!
I’ve been coverstitching for almost 15 years now and made it my mission to teach best practices when it comes to using this machine. And I’ve had my own fair share of struggles too, so I’m coming from that place in my teaching.
I will teach how to set-up and use your machine, how to do the proper adjustments so that you achieve great results regardless of what fabric and thread you are using plus lots and lots of troubleshooting tips.
And just like with my last book Sewing Activewear, the book will also feature clearly illustrated step-by-step instructions. Plus you will get lots of tutorials on how you can use your machine beyond hemming knits.
Also if you have any additional questions and suggestions around this book project, please ask away!

August 19, 2018 at 10:35 pmOh that’s awesome, I have my coverstitch since last April. I am still learning to work with it, so you’re book is more than welcome for me!

August 20, 2018 at 1:51 pmI really love your first book and look forward to the second. I wonder if you would do a part on swimwear and using the coverstitch, as I make a lot of swimwear and less active wear. I presume the techniques are the same though.

August 21, 2018 at 9:06 amYes, I will primarily show different ways to attach elastic to openings with a coverstitch, which is standard industrial method for making swimwear. As you say, the principles are the same, regardless of garment. It can be used for activewear and underwear too.

August 21, 2018 at 10:46 pmWhen will your book be published and will it be available in Australia! I have a JukiMCS1500 and been using it for the past 4 months – would love to learn more – I stitch mostly stretch fabrics (Aerials/Acrobatic costumes). Please add my name to your list of buyers.

August 27, 2018 at 10:34 pmI believe you’ll make a great book.
There is one use of coverstitch I see overlooked a lot and that is basting with a one-needle coverstitch (chain stitch). The seam can be ripped out by simply pulling on both threads from the end of the seam, no seamripper required! Also only two pieces of thread after unpicking any seam, not a thousand pieces on the ground 🙂
For any type of fitted garment, but especially pants (jeans!) where the fabric stretch plays such an important role, I always baste with my coverstitch: it takes only a couple of minutes to baste a whole pant and even less to ‘unbaste’.
