Sewing yoga capri leggings

So let’s take a look at one of my latest and favorite activewear make, a pair of bold print yoga capri leggings. I just love this fabric, and this was my last piece, and I just barley managed to squeeze all the pieces in (good thing I’m short!).

The waistband and crotch. I used a combination of power net and clear elastic to give the waistband a body shaping effect. And for the crotch seams I used reverse coverstitching to create a mock flat-lock effect, using woolly nylon in the looper. Both methods are described with through step-by-step instructions in my book Sewing Activewear: How to make your own professional-looking athletic wear .

The back pocket. I tried adding a welt pocket and that turned out very well. If you are curious on how it’s done, check out my tutorial How to sew a waistband welt pocket.

The fit. I’ve drafted this leggings pattern myself, and it’s been a long process getting the fit right, but now I’m so happy with how these sits on my body. I have stopped buying leggings pattern because of this, since it is so hard to do all the tweaks all over each time, when I have my own pattern that I can trust.

The ties. I think they are such a nice feature, again you’ll find tutorials for this in my book

So these are my new leggings! I lived in them the entire weekend and wore them both when I was doing errands and lifting weights at the gym, they are so comfortable and summery!
