Best of my button collection

Button collection

Confession time: I got a button collection so large that it will probably last me a lifetime. Yet I keep buying more. But lets not dwell on my shopping habits here, instead we’ll take a look at some favorites from my ginormous collection.

Button collection

Vintage buttons that I bought several years ago. Love the box they came in. I think these buttons would be perfect for a coat or jacket.

Button collection

Another set of vintage buttons. Someday they will decorate a blouse or a shirt dress.

Button collection

Yet another set of vintage buttons that I’ve had for years but are still waiting for the perfect project. Maybe a cardigan or a blouse?

Five really good sewing books

If I have a trademark when it comes to buttons, it would be those decorated with stripes/borders. They have found there way t tons of clothes I’ve made over the years and I never seem to get tired of them.

Button collection

My most recent purchase. These will decorate a navy twill jacket that I plan to make some day.

Button collection

My button collection is pretty well organized these days. Here is a post on how I went from button chaos to this system.

Writing this post makes me realize that I have even more buttons that I thought! But I don’t feel guilty about it one bit, buttons make me happy and they can really elevate a garment. So tell me, are you the same way when it comes to buttons?

I have my buttons in a cookie tin, but I'm afraid to use them! Some are old (from my mother in law own collection) some are new, but for some reason I don't want to use them. I prefer to buy the perfect combo: fabric, thread and buttons. Silly me!

Ah buttons in a cookie tin, that makes me feel so nostalgic because that's how my grandmother used to store hers and as a kid I loved rummaging trough it. Maybe that was how my addiction was formed?! Perhaps we should regard our precious button collections more like that, a rare collection meant to be kept and then buy the buttons we need for each project!
